2018 Nissan Pathfinder
What can you expect when the new 2018 Nissan Pathfinder hits showroom floors? Drivers are going to love the powerful V6 engine, superbly roomy interior and newly standard frontal crash mitigation with automatic emergency braking. Other new features this year include a rear-door alert system and the Midnight Edition appearance package, which adds a ton of sleek black trims.
Overview of the New Pathfinder
The new Pathfinder is a three-row large crossover SUV which is a touch smaller than the full-size Armada, and provides outstanding overall performance. The current model will come standard with front wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive available. It’s powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine which delivers 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft. of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 20 miles per gallon in the city, and 27 on the highway for front-wheel drive models (19/26 with AWD option). You get 16 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 47.8. It can tow a maximum of 6,000 lbs when properly equipped.
Some of the base features on the new Pathfinder will include a big 8-inch touchscreen interface, multi-information display, tri-zone automatic climate control, rearview camera, keyless ignition and entry, and Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio. Higher end options include parking sensors, the Nissan Around View camera system, heated and cooled seats, remote start, heated steering wheel, premium Bose audio, power liftgate, LED headlights and more.
Safety Features and Ratings
While ratings for the 2018 model aren’t yet available, the 2017 Pathfinder got 5-stars overall from the NHTSA, and was awarded a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS, with a top “Good” rating in every crash score. For its emergency braking, the 2017 model got a Superior rating after it was able to avoid a collision at 12 mph and greatly reduce impact of a 25 mph crash down to 11 mph. With frontal collision warning and mitigation standard on all new Pathfinders, these scores stand to hold up and even improve further.
