Nissan Frontier Review
At the crossroads of midsize truck innovation, off-road ability, and work-ready technology, you’ll find the talented 2017 Nissan Frontier. If you’re a South Shore truck shopper looking for a small to medium pickup with major capability, the Nissan Frontier deserves a spot at the top of your test drive list.
In the following Nissan Frontier review by Nissan 24, we’ll go over trim and cab options, forward-thinking technology, and its tow, haul, and off-road statistics. Let’s get started!
Choose Your Frontier: Trims and Cab Sizes
When it comes to purchasing a pickup that works with your needs and behind-the-wheel preferences, the 2017 Nissan Frontier’s array of truck configurations are on your side.
There’s five truck trims (S, SV, Dessert Runner, SL, and PRO-4X), two engine options (a 4-cylinder and a V6), and two cab sizes (King Cabs that seat four and Crew Cabs that seat five). There’s also a standard and long bed size. When you get to mixing and matching, there are 10 main Frontier combinations available.
In the truck realm, this is a great benefit. Buyers can select a truck for their preferred passenger count, favor a more efficient or powerful drive, and continue to add technology or advanced features as they see fit.
2017 Nissan Frontier Towing Capabilities
The Nissan Frontier offers truck seekers strong and capable performance. The standard Frontier engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that makes 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.
For enhanced torque and tow statistics, there’s an available V6 motor that produces 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, this engine can shoulder up to 1,430 pounds in the truck bed and 6,710 pounds in tow, which is enough muscle to pull your biggest vacation toys or haul the materials you need for a backyard makeover.
Both engines shift from your choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic. The most efficient matchup is the 4-cylinder engine and the 5-speed manual, which achieves an EPA-estimated 19/23 MPG city/highway.
Off-Road Ability in the 2017 Frontier PRO-4X
If you want to use your Frontier truck for finding new frontiers, stepping up to the off-road focused PRO-4X is encouraged. The 2017 Nissan PRO-4X offers buyers a standout off-road equipment set that many truck series tend to leave out.
This includes an advanced 4×4 system that delivers power to all four Frontier corners, an electronic locking rear differential that maximizes traction across uneven terrain, and Bilstein performance shocks that provide enhanced ride response and comfort.
The Frontier PRO-4X gives you the means to go farther and boost your off-road drives with standard NissanConnectSM with Navigation and Mobile Apps. This topnotch program and feature collection makes keeping in touch with friends and family, listening to new music, and exploring new routes and destinations easy and fun.
