2012 Nissan Juke Review
2012 Nissan Juke Reviewed
Nissan continues to expand its model lineup with small cars with distinct personalities. The brand’s 2012 Nissan Juke micro-SUV is unlike anything else on the market, from its unconventional but lovable styling to its turbocharged performance.
Engine and Drivetrain: One Quick Crossover
A powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine produces 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive Juke models offer the option of a six-speed manual or continuously variable automatic (CVT) transmissions. Nissan is the market leader in building CVTs, which use a system of pulleys instead of traditional gears for an infinite number of ratios.
The Juke comes standard with front-wheel drive. With the available Nissan ATESSA all-wheel drive system, the Juke becomes a great choice for all-weather use. Its tall ride height and high traction making navigating winter climates easier and safer than typical front-wheel drive subcompacts.
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates fuel efficiency to be up to 27 city/32 highway mpg for front-wheel drive models and 25 city/30 highway with all-wheel drive. This makes the AWD version among the least expensive and most efficient vehicles with power sent to all four wheels.
Exterior and Interior Impressions
Around the dimensions of a Nissan Versa compact sedan but with a raised ride height and much sportier drive, the Juke has a versatile rear cargo area and is much easier to park than a true SUV. Its styling is unconventional, and it has appealed to enough buyers looking for something unique to propel the Juke to surprisingly high sales to date. While others may prefer a more conventional design, the Nissan Juke appeals to people who are looking for style-forward vehicles that dare to be different.
Front seat legroom and headroom is excellent, while the rear seats have plenty of vertical legroom but can require some leaning for taller passengers. Despite the crossover’s tiny size, four real doors make entry and exit easier. Interior design echos the car’s style-minded personality, with plenty of color and a sport bike-inspired theme.
