2016 Nissan Frontier and Silverado Overview

Both of these trucks have gotten minor upgrades for this model year. Each offers Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone app integration, and a wealth of other great infotainment, navigation, and driver information technology features.

The 2016 Nissan Frontier makes the most of its popular NissanConnect system and offers standard mobile app interface and navigation systems as well as available satellite radio tuners.

The Chevy Silverado gets an upgrade of Chevy’s own MyLink system with more intuitive functionality and upgraded safety technologies. New features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto packages.

Engines and Performance

The Frontier offers a wealth of performance-related features from its two engines. The base model comes with a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that puts out 152 horsepower. It’s upgradable to a 4.0-liter V6 that delivers 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque.

It also offers Bilstein off-road performance shocks, which greatly reduce the bumps and jars of off-roading and highway driving alike, delivering a supremely smooth ride.

The Silverado’s engines remain steady this year with a 4.3-liter V6 putting out 285 horsepower and an upgraded V8 available. Both six-speed and eight-speed transmissions are available.

For a vehicle that relies on power, this isn’t a surprise. However, the enhanced shocks and smoother ride on the Frontier more than make up for the difference, and the Frontier delivers a much better EPA-estimated fuel economy overall.

Interior Comfort and Ride

Both of these vehicles deliver a smooth, comfortable ride experience. In the end, however, the Frontier is focused more on being a well-rounded vehicle with a variety of options and features for comfort and quality. It offers plenty of room in the cabin, easily accessible center console features, and a smooth, refined driving experience whether you’re on the highway or engaging in some off-road towing or hauling.

The Frontier also features an exhaustive list of safety features, which earns it top markings in testing across the board. This includes additional head airbags, child seat anchors, and engine immobilizer in addition to the standard blind spot monitoring, rearview camera, and other features you’d expect from a modern vehicle.
