With fall officially in full swing, it’s time for Brockton, Randolph, and Stoughton area residents to think about signing up for this year’s turkey trots and Thanksgiving festivities. Head about 25 miles southeast of Brockton and you’ll hit the town where the Pilgrims and Native Americans first broke bread: Plymouth, MA. Each year Plymouth hosts several events to celebrate this first famed harvest meal. Check out the walks, runs, and events to look forward to this year below!
America’s Hometown Thanksgiving: November 20 to 22
Ever wanted to chat with a Pilgrim and find out what really happened way back in the day? Here’s your chance! America’s Hometown Thanksgiving is the largest harvest holiday celebration held the weekend before Thanksgiving at historic Plymouth Harbor. Plymouth will be abuzz with excitement as the event’s weekend-long family-friendly festivities populate the town with its first historical inhabitants.
Saturday’s historic parade will bring marveling at incredible floats, listening to the cadence of fife and drums, and watching as equestrian riders march to tell a story nearly 400 years in the making. Weekend celebrations continue with the New England Food Festival, an outdoor living history village, farmers’ market with local goods, and live entertainment for all ages.
Grumpy’s Cranberry Harvest 5K: November 5
Looking to tour the cranberry region by running shoe? Grumpy’s Cranberry Harvest 5K gives nature lovers the ultimate view of the cranberry harvesting process. The route for Grumpy’s race zig zags through the woods and right by bogs that are brimming with red berries!
After completing your nature run, catch your breath and sip some complimentary cranberry refreshments. Participants will also receive a commemorative event T-shirt. All proceeds benefit the Cranberry Educational Foundation.
Plymouth Turkey Prep 5K Run and Walk for Charity: November 22
Head to Nelson Street Park on Sunday, November 22 for the 2nd Annual Plymouth Turkey Prep 5K Run and Walk for Hunger. This fun walk, run, or saunter starts at scenic Nelson Street Park and takes racers over the North Plymouth bike trail. This race is a great, affordable way for the whole family to get out and exercise together. There’s no timing and registration is just $10 before November 1. Prancing pups are welcome too! All of your participation fee goes to the Plymouth Food Warehouse to help bring meals to those in need in the Plymouth area.
The One and Only Plymouth Turkey Trot: November 26
The One and Only Plymouth Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many trotters in the region. Meet at iconic Plymouth Rock bright and early on Turkey Day for an epic turkey trot and holiday tribute. This scenic and thrilling course weaves through the Pilgrims’ first post and concludes with a grand climb to Forefather’s Monument.
Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5K Run and Fitness Walk: November 26
Sign up to cruise this flat and fast route down one of the oldest trails where the Pilgrims themselves trotted centuries before! Learn a bit of history while you make your own: The nature of this course and high-excitement energy from many talented runners has made the Pilgrim 5K Run and Fitness Walk synonymous with running record times.
