2013 Nissan Rogue vs. 2013 Ford Escape

Nissan Rogue near BostonAs the two least expensive crossover SUVs in the current segment, the 2013 Nissan Rogue and 2013 Ford Escape draw the inevitable comparison. When shopping for a new crossover SUV, particularly a Nissan Rogue in Boston, there are a few things you need to bear in mind.

Most important for a majority of consumers will be the price tag on both vehicles. The Rogue comes out well ahead in this category, with a base price of $25,890 compared to $27,295 for the Escape. The Rogue also carries a lower destination charge, which means that rolling off the lot you will pay a lot less for the Rogue.

The Nissan Rogue also offers better maneuverability, which is important on the city streets of Boston. Independent struts up front and an independent multi-link suspension in the back. The Rogue also has a tighter turning radius, meaning much better cornering. Otherwise, both the Rogue and the Escape ride much like a car, which it typical in the crossover SUV class.

Inside, both cars have their fair share of buttons and knobs. Nissan added Bluetooth for 2013 in the Rogue, and completely redesigned the center stack to make it much more user friendly and useful. The touchscreen system now runs the NissanConnect system, and the new radio setup is much improved over years past. The Escape’s setup can have a slightly steeper learning curve than the Rogue for sure, and some have noted that the shifter gets in the way of the climate control system. While that may only be a problem when parked, it can be a minor annoyance to those who prefer to get everything set up before they pull out of the driveway.

Another advantage the Rogue holds over the Escape is in size. The decreased width gives the Rogue the ability to fit in to tighter parking spaces, while its longer length gives it a more spacious interior. That difference becomes magnified for taller drivers, as the Escape’s front seats have a little less knee room than the Rogue.

It is a close call, but all the Nissan Rogue drivers in Boston cannot be wrong. To test drive the 2013 Nissan Rogue, stop by Nissan 24 in Brockton. One test drive will convince you of the Rogue’s superiority.
