Boston Nissan Dealership Sales Up 23.2% In April

The old saying may indicate that April brings mostly showers, but for Nissan dealers in MA and beyond, the month had another surprise. Sales for the month were up 23.2 percent over April of last year, driven mostly by their core models and a huge sales month for the Nissan Leaf. If you have had your eye on a certain model at a Nissan dealership in MA, you may want to make your move before someone else snaps it up.

Nissan moved 87,847 cars in the month of April, over a total of 71,329 just a year ago. Their Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra models were at the core of the strong month, but the Nissan Leaf continued its torrid sales pace after a record-setting March. Leaf sales were up 423.5 percent in April, driving them to a 160 percent increase in all of 2013 over 2012.

Experts point to a couple factors that are pushing Leaf sales. First, Nissan moved their production to their vehicle and battery assembly plant in Smyrna, TN. Along with that, Nissan also repositioned the Leaf’s price point along with a wider selection of trim levels to give consumers more options. Obviously buyers have responded positively to the changes in the all-electric car’s makeup.

Th Leaf was not the only record setter in April. Also setting a personal best was the Nissan Rogue. Sales of the crossover SUV were up 39 percent in April over the same month last year, totaling 11,904 vehicles sold. Pathfinder sales were up a whopping 214.7 percent. April was the sixth consecutive month that the Pathfinder had increased sales of over 145 percent over the month of the previous year. Overall, sales of the SUV are up 180.9 percent in 2013.

Positive reviews of the completely redesigned Sentra and Altima are also having an impact on their sales. For the month, Sentra sales were up 44.9 percent, and the Altima saw an increase of 44.9 percent. The Altima’s success is especially encouraging for Nissan, as it had been positioned to knock the Camry out of the catbird seat, which it appears to be doing.
